Frequently Asked Questions

Why trek gorillas in Uganda but fly into Kigali?
Bwindi is closer to Kigali (4 to 5 hours) than to Entebbe (9+ hours), and Uganda’s permit costs USD 800 versus USD 1,500 in Rwanda. This route combines the cheapest permit with the shortest travel time.
Which visa do I need?
The East Africa Tourist Visa (USD 100) covers both Rwanda and Uganda with multiple entries.
How much time do I get with the gorillas and monkeys?
Exactly one hour with each, strictly enforced to protect the animals.
Is 4 days enough?
Yes for both treks and Kigali; add days for Queen Elizabeth NP or Akagera if you want savanna wildlife too.
What fitness level do I need?
Golden monkeys: easy. Gorillas in Bwindi: moderate to challenging, 2 to 7 hours; porters available.
When should I book?
Gorilla permits are limited (8 visitors per family per day) and sell out months ahead in high season; book 4 to 6 months in advance.
